Working magic at Ealing YOT

Late in 2012 I was asked to deliver training to a group of young people at Ealing Youth Offending Team as part of their Arts Award http://www.artsaward.org.uk to supporting the achievement of the bronze and silver arts award through magic workshops.
  • Out of the 8 young people that took part 7 achieved silver and 1 achieved bronze.
  • The young people took their skills to London’s Southbank and performed to street magicians.
As a professional magician, educator, RJ practitioner and YOT worker I have run magic workshops as an engagement tool with young people for several years with great success. if you are interested in incorporating a creative dimension to the work you offer, please contact me on andy@writing-wrongs.org or telephone Andy Winters on

Youth Justice Conference

We had a stand and a workshop at the YJB conference in Birmingham in November 2012; it is clear from feedback from many of the delegates that attended the conference that the Writing Wrongs programme is being well used, has become a preferred resource with practitioners and has also been credited within inspection reports in several youth justice organisations for effective practice.

As many of you are aware I am an education representative at a youth offending team where myself and colleagues regularly use the programme as practitioners, this ensures constant evalaution to enhance the training we deliver to support the resource pack.

Writing Wrongs is based on the model created for ‘It’s Your Life’ the knife awareness programme which I co-wrote for Lancashire Youth Offending team which takes a restorative approach, over 86 Youth Offending Teams use this programme http://www.knifeaware.org.uk/.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year 2013 is going to be a great year.  Last year was an amazing year for Writing Wrongs, the uptake from youth offending teams has been phenomenal. This is the first entry of my blog as we’ve been really busy developing the programme and doing some wonderful work within education.

  • Working with Ealing YOT supporting the achievement of the  arts award through magic workshops.
  • With performance poet extraordinaire, Terry Caffrey where we created ‘Cairo Chaos’ a poetry and magic extravaganza which was used  to launch the Ancient Egypt exhibition at Manchester museum. http://terrycaffrey.com
  • Developing RJ resources for use in the probation service and primary schools.
